Adrian holds degrees in both law and science from Victoria University of Wellington, with his science degree majoring in genetics, molecular biology and physiology. Prior to joining Henry Hughes in 2006, Adrian worked at the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand where he examined applications for patents, trade marks, and registered designs.

Adrian advises clients on all areas of intellectual property, including patent infringement, validity and freedom to operate. He also drafts, files and prosecutes patent applications in New Zealand and Australia across a broad range of technology sectors, including pharmaceuticals, veterinary remedies, mechanical engineering, computer software and electronic systems.

In 2009, Adrian appeared before the Commerce Select Committee of the New Zealand Parliament in support of submissions on the Patents Bill 2008 (now enacted as the Patents Act 2013).

Adrian has given presentations about intellectual property at biotechnology conferences and commercialisation forums. A number of his articles have been published in magazines. Adrian also tutors subjects in-house for patent attorney examinations.

Adrian is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys.
