Congratulations to our two newly qualified patent attorneys!

We are proud to announce that associates Penny Walsh and Jesse Strafford have qualified as patent attorneys in Australia and New Zealand and are Fellows of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys.

Penny has been involved in intellectual property protection for over 10 years, first putting her PhD in Chemistry to good use as a Senior Patent Examiner at the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand, and then joining Henry Hughes in 2011. Keen to acquire a broader range of skills, she took on a Bachelor of Architectural Studies, which she completed in 2013. While studying towards registration as a patent attorney, the NZIPA Council awarded her prizes for her work in the qualifying examinations for drafting of patent specifications (2017) and trade marks (2019).

Jesse drafts, files and prosecutes patents in Australia and New Zealand, particularly in the pharmaceutical, agricultural and mechanical fields. His experience as a former Patent Examiner at the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand is valuable, both when communicating issues to clients, and responding to office actions.
